Key Design Decisions
Key Design Decisions
- The central axis appears first so the later curves and rotation share a stable anchor.
- As the curves enter, their changes in direction remain visible instead of resolving immediately into the complete logo.
- A short pause before the final lockup gives the viewer time to recognize the mark and also makes the animation easier to use as a website intro or the opening of a project film.
Process
Structural Starting Point
The animation starts with a single vertical axis at the center of the frame. A center point, horizontal guide, and outer proportion frame establish the initial coordinate system. At this stage the logo has not fully appeared; only the essential framework that determines its later form remains.
In After Effects, the axis was built as an independent Shape Layer and revealed with Trim Paths. The central intersection also serves as the shared anchor for the later path assembly and full-mark rotation, preventing positional drift during movement.
Structural Assembly
The separated straight lines and curves begin returning to the center along their planned paths. The straight elements establish the main direction first; the curves then move, rotate, and settle into position until the complete crossing relationship forms at the center.
Each local element completes its position, rotation, and path changes on an independent layer before being organized into a single precomposition. This preserves control over the individual parts while allowing the complete logo to rotate as one unit in the next stage.
Project Challenge
A static logo shows the final silhouette, but it does not directly reveal how the axes are established, how the curves enter, or how the direction takes shape. The animation therefore needed to make the construction process clear without weakening recognition of the final mark.
My Role
I handled the structural breakdown of the mark, path-motion design, keyframe timing, After Effects compositing, and the organization of process material for the case study, so that each stage of movement corresponded to a clear graphic relationship.
Final Logo Motion
The animation begins with the central axis, while curved paths gradually form in the upper and lower directions. Once the structure is assembled vertically, the graphic rotates around its central intersection into a horizontal orientation and settles into a stable standard lockup with the SHIDAFA. wordmark.

After the rotation is complete, the process guides gradually leave the frame, leaving only the finished graphic and the SHIDAFA. wordmark. The logo returns to its standard horizontal state, with the two endpoints, central intersection, and upper and lower curves settling into a stable final relationship.
The ending does not add bounce, scale, or further decoration. Instead, it holds a quiet pause so the viewer can complete the act of recognition. This stable duration also allows the animation to lead naturally into later content when used as a website intro or project-film opener.
Reflection
The final result is a Logo Motion piece centered on structural generation: from axes and curves through rotation to the standard wordmark, it presents the full motion logic behind the identity of my personal mark.
